Rug Loom for Home Weaving Easy Warping
I bet many of you lot take these picayune schoolhouse frame looms at home… and the firm intention to apply them one day to exercise some weaving, to make cute wall-hangings and play effectually a scrap… and never washed so, because you don't know how to warp it?
It's such a pity! You lot need maximal 20 minutes to warp a loom like this, it's super easy and y'all nearly don't need whatever fabric as well your loom. And after yous actually can do so many things even with a simple loom similar this!
And so today I idea I'll warp my loom and make some photos to show how like shooting fish in a barrel information technology is, considering it really is! Please try information technology out!
So offset things first, the material needed:
- Your loom naturally
- Some yarn for the warp. I used some unproblematic cotton yarn. You can use any yarn y'all want, but, delight, apply a polish yarn, some cotton fiber or linen, or some sock-yarn for example. Don't use a hairy or sticky wool or alpaca. You won't be able to separate the strands into 2 sections subsequently.
- Some yarn for the weft. Here you can use whatever yarn you want.
- A stick to wrap your weft yarn around. I use a wooden i, but yous can easily make one out of cardboard yourself.
- A comb to browbeaten downwards your weft. This one isn't really necessary, you lot can use whatever you want to browbeaten down your weft. In the starting time even only your fingers would exist fine besides!
And now… action!
Step by step we'll run across how to warp a frame loom!
In that location are three phases to warp a loom like this:
one. Warp the first set of threads
two. Insert the middle stick
iii . Warp the second set of threads.
i. Warp the first set of threads: Put the middle stick on one side for the moment. You don't need it hither. Tie the offset of your warp threat around the start pigsty in front of y'all. You don't need to precut your warp, it stays for moment on the skein or cone.
Begin by passing your string in the showtime slot of the front end side, go to the outset hole of the behind, turn effectually to the second hole and come back to the front end side. Here you lot laissez passer your thread into the second hole, plow around to the third hole and return to the backside and so on, until you finish the whole loom (or the width you want). You cut your yarn and set up it with a knot in the last slot, like for the offset.
Offset step finished with the starting time fix of threads warped:
ii. Insert the center stick: First, pass the stick just nether all warp threads and lay it on the side frame. Looks like this:
Secondly, yous accommodate the threads y'all warped before one by i: 1 after the other yous put the threads in every second slot of the middle stick, in my case always in the shorter slots similar this:
And hither finished:
three. Warp the 2d set of threads: You start as for the first gear up by knotting your thread around the commencement slot of the front side. You make the same "there and back" movement as for the first set in the aforementioned slots of the front and back side – only difference – you pass now by the empty slots of middle stick too (the long ones). In this way you create ii sets of threads separated by one some other:
Here the finished warp of the loom:
The heart stick helps to dissever the two sets of threads. By turning it to the back or to the front, you lot elevator one time the threads of the shorter slots and in one case the threads of the longer slots and create in this way ii differents openings.
Et voilà! Your loom is warped! Finished! Now you can start to weave! I'm certain this doesn't took more than 20 minutes!?
To start weaving, wrap y'all weft yarn effectually your stick or paper-thin, whatsoever y'all apply. Attention here! Don't wrap too much yarn around your stick!!! The opening created isn't very large and the threads are not stock-still inside the slots! If you utilise a weft stick that'due south too thick, you won't make it to pass the opening or you lot'll elevator the threads outside the middle stick!
So wrap a fleck of yarn effectually your stick, pass in one case the opening for case created with the middle stick turned to the back side:
Push your yarn downwards, turn the middle stick to the front and pass your weft yarn back through the new opening (pay attention you lot don't pull the side in so much as I'm doing here on the photo!):
In this way you create the nigh basic of weaving patterns, the plain weave. Information technology means that y'all always goes over ane warp thread, and so under the next, and and then on, which produces a very strong, balanced and difficult-wearing fabric:
Naturally you can make many other pattern even with a simple loom similar this. I think I'll play around now a bit, make some twill and herringbone patterns and try some tapestry…
Promise you followed until hither and warped your loom with success! If something isn't clear, don't hesitate to ask! Hope to run into some of your weaving in the time to come on Instagram!!??
Courage! It'south easy! Try it!
